Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns Dentistry Grand Rapids Dentis

Over time, teeth begin to weaken. This leaves them more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, or discoloration. A dental crown can renew the appearance and function of a tooth.

Candidates for Dental Crowns

Schedule an appointment with us if you're experiencing any dental pain or discomfort. During your appointment, Dr. Nichols will examine the inside of your mouth. We'll also take dental X-rays to get a look at any issues that may lie beneath the surface.

Dr. Nichols may recommend a dental crown to restore a tooth with severe injury or decay.

Dental crowns can:

  • Prevent a weak tooth from breaking
  • Hold a cracked tooth together
  • Cover and support a damaged or decayed tooth
  • Cover a discolored tooth
  • Restore a broken or worn tooth

Also, dental crowns are often used with root canal therapy, dental implants, or as an anchor for a bridge.

Porcelain crowns provide both strength and a natural appearance.

How to Care for Your Dental Crown

The best way to care for your dental crown is to maintain good oral hygiene. This means brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes at a time. You should also floss your teeth once a day to remove any plaque or food particles.

Continue seeing our dentist every 6 months for routine care. That way, Dr. Nichols will be able to check the condition of your dental crown. We'll also be able to detect any issues with your oral health while removing plaque and tartar.
